Yeah, ngl, I like the NJO books a lot, but they have the same problem as most science fiction does at completely misunderstanding the democracy vs. dictatorship issue and what it means in terms of defense. This whole idea that „democracies“ (really just societies with some form of formal collective decision making) are complacent and weak whereas dictatorships are well-organized, efficient and powerful, is really just a trope. History usually shows the opposite, and it is always more complex. All other things being equal, formal republics have a much better chance of mobilizing their whole population in the face of external threats, including disgruntled elements. Whereas autocracies, especially after a few decades, are often so top-heavy and corrupt that their military just falls apart, and while the population may respond earnestly to the external threat, with even the low-level military leadership thoroughly corrupted, they can never form a cohesive force. Excellent examples for this are France during the Franco-Prussian war (contrary to modern perception, Napoleon III was expected to win this war easily at the time) or the Russian Empire in WWI. Whereas for example both the Young USA and the French Revolutionary Government were able to defend themselves very effectively against powerful outside forces. I think it says something profound about our society that the leading school of thought* within that society fundamentally believes collective government to be bad, even though evidence tends to be to the contrary. Or maybe they‘d just rather be running a dictatorship. *btw, I‘m not saying that the writers of Star Wars hate democracy or are responsible for any of this, but that the people who have the most influence on collective consciousness, say by writing newspaper, movies or schoolbooks seem to be so reactionary that almost everyone becomes infected with those ideas.

I liked Stars Wars ( saw it in '77) loved Empire Strikes Back!! Rogue one was pretty good. Unfortunately I find the rest of the Star Wars franchise boring and/or awful.

ministry of defence = ministry of death, yea we've never had to defend ourselves against anyone not even the french as that was just a redux of the spartan - athenian prolonged conflicts, same families owning land on both sides so they were mechanisms for population control & little else as the french would never of even made if half way up mercia. =D 100 years war = hundred year war taxes yet how many even consider that =D the only time we wouldve had to DEFEND ourself for real lol was if the HRE quickly built enough ships to get their mercs & soldiers onto this island and if that happened it would've been way more brutal than a dane vs a saxon =D there would've been no defence, defending stolen lands & defending allies that we only had a use for is not defence at all, and if your history incudes allying with us then your country very likely has a depraved history as we do, hello turkey =D the ones who really attacked the kurds then we used that to blame iraq ^_- two pizz-ant peas in a pod these lot

Some time ago I did a survey for CA about games that I would like to see or improvements on the games themselves and there was ALOT of game universes that they inquired about, star wars being one of them. I think the results from that survey may have helped them with there decision making, another game series they inquired heavily on was the Game of Throne works. Now there was about 20ish game series that was on the list but it did ask "which game would you like to see next check 3 boxes". They even had their own games on it like a Medieval 3 or Empire 2, things like that.

I hope CA commit to one era like the clone wars. Personally I wouldnt mind having a strategy game set in the Clone Wars era. They are far and few between. I dont recall any one besides the old Age of Empires engine games Galactic Battlegrounds and thats a real oldie. This is besides mods for other games. So an officiall Total Wars: Clone Wars styled title would be pretty cool. Or perhaps they would go with the new timeline or maybe some of the old republic and such. I dont know but I hope they focus on one era and really make something great with it. We have so few officiall strategy games with Star Wars and less good ones.

Star Wars - Rebellion would actually make a good inspiration for a SW- TW. Planets, Planet Sieges, Scale of Ship Battle. Now a good Concept for Troops, cover and Vehicle Concepts and Jedi that can still do Force ontop of walls... In addition, TW games need not to dumb down anymore. I mean what comes next? Hand holding or a Mysterious Stranger killing enemy Heroes on easy difficulty? Fighters can fight based on Tech above the Battlefield, so you have a amazing lightshow in the sky and after you have air spueriority you can call in Bombing runs 1-2 times

On one hand i love starwars and would love a starwars total war...but on the other hand i would like a rome 3, shogun3, never played medieval 2 but a 3rd game sounds cool...im conflicted

Id rather 40k over star wars as a total war game honestly. Much more mechanically diverse fictions, as well as factions overall. Star Wars generally only has two main factions per era. I think Star Wars would work better as something more akin to Empire at War

So I'm a total wars fan, and an even bigger star wars fan. The last good game they put out was Three Kingdom (they didn't finish the game btw), followed by a meh Atila and then Rome II. None of the Warhammer games are any good IMHO, sorry. CA was bombed over SJW issues last I remembered and they have not put out a good game for like 10 years. I'm extremely unsure how a Star Wars Total Wars game would look like since everybody has a blaster. Other than Geonosis no battle in Star Wars played out with an open field. Sure, Jedi can be romanticised like 3 kingdom and Warhammer, and I guess blasters can mean all units are ranged units, but then blasters are accurate firearms unlike shogun or archers. I think all that will happen is it will flop lol..... esp given CA's track record. Id rather not see that game turn to fruition. One game I think could work is "call to arms" which I think was an indie game that focuses on squad tactic warfare - u can control individual troops. That I think would work very well

Before I even watch the video, here are my guesses in no particular order: Sun Crusher, Galaxy Gun, World Devastators, the Rakatan Starforge, and the Dark Reaper.

They're definitely one of the best ships in EAW too. I've been able to use the bomber complement to win against otherwise insurmountable odds

When you do not care to preserve the surrounding ecosystem or planetary infrastructure, yes use orbital bombardment. Orbital bombardment is not accurate because the laser beams will be deflected unpredictably by the atmosphere. If precision strike is needed, a starfighter bombing run would be preferable.

Empire at War is the best format for a Star Wars game. The only thing I would change is the make the space battle 3D instead of the flat 2D plane we have now.

Sorry, but this rumor is probably just a simple deception to advertise DualShockers: First of all, you should know that this rumor only has DualShockers as its sole source (all other articles that talk about this rumor cite DualShockers as the only source) and their only proof is a "reliable source" which claims that CA is currently working on three Total Wars at the moment, including a Star Wars. That alone makes me tick: CA recently suffered two waves of layoffs which hurt them, so I don't believe they have the manpower necessary to develop three Total Wars at the same time. My theory is that the famous DualShockers "source" must have reported some rather vague information like: they are working on a science fiction license with magic (Warhammer 40K). And so the DualShockers journalists immediately jumped to the conclusion that it must be Star Wars and that even if it isn't, it will at least give them some good publicity. I find that it's a too common phenomenon on the internet and social networks: someone somewhere says something HUGE, and it snowballs and reproduces itself endlessly, becoming the Phenomenon in itself and making forget the total absence of reliable information at the source...
